Editorial Policy

How we research

The Rate Sheet is a reader-first, independent guide to what car insurance really costs. We are not an insurance company, we are not a broker, and we do not sell quotes.

Every guide we publish is built from primary sources, not marketing claims:

  • State rate filings and department of insurance data — we look at what insurers actually filed and were approved to charge.
  • State insurance bulletins and regulations — because the rules (and the prices) change state by state, and often year by year.
  • Policy fine print — the declarations pages, endorsements, and exclusions that decide what you really get for your premium.
  • Carrier disclosures and public documents — so our discount and coverage guides reflect what insurers publish, not what ads imply.

No sponsored placements, ever

We accept no sponsored placements and do not sell rankings, reviews, or quote leads. No insurer can pay to appear in our guides, move up a list, or change what we say about them. We sell no advertising that influences editorial decisions.

Corrections policy

Insurance rules and rates change. If you spot an error, an outdated figure, or a rule that no longer applies in your state, tell us — we check every correction request and update articles promptly when something is wrong. Substantive corrections are noted on the article so readers know what changed.
